Pain, you never experienced the desert combat mod for BF1942, but once it was released, few people played anything but Desert Combat. I expect this will be the same and might breathe new life into the game. I enjoy Point of Existence as well, another great mod.

20% downloaded.

Move it soldier!

It loaded nicely, no problems, lots of servers. Uncheck ranked.
Tanks run like they should. Heli's fly like they should. Didn't see any jets on
El-Alemain but that might have been a server config.

Well, after that experience I don't think I will be going back to regular BF2 anytime soon. It was the old Desert Combat all over again but with better weapons. I enjoyed all the old maps and some new ones. There are still some things to fix but that is in the process but they have already fixed some of the issues that EA left hanging. One of the developers dropped in to Teamspeak last night and had a few rounds with us. Pretty cool. Lots of servers, lots of players. Highly recommended download. Well worth the time and amazingly, no cost.

I agree, make that ... I AGREE!!

The download took 1/2 an hour, but the install was painless. I had a rousing good time with Grasshopper, BVJ, and BillyBadMule playing this mod last night. Always fun to play in some new map spaces, too. And this is a pretty lively mod. Big, big fun. (it's not small)

New map, new map.

http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/BF/2/

or via ftp ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/BF/2/

It's not large, played the map last night. Looks like a lot of servers are running it. Nice desert look to it.

I will check it out later this week ... I am leaving for Orcas Island in a couple of hours. Last chance, BVJ, I could still swing by your 'hood and pick you up while I am up there ...

By the way, any comments on the new Highway Tampa map? At work the Big I is making noises about how cool they are because "we have Intel stuff inside a BF2 map now ...". Did any of you notice all the Intel promo stuff in the map? Any thoughts / comments on advergaming?

It's like it is everywhere lately. Last night I watched a recently released rental DVD movie called "The Last Mimzy" with the munchkin. In case you have not seen it, it is cute. I don't want to give any spoilers for those of you who might watch it, but suffice it to say there is an artifact from the future and etched onto the microscopic parts is a logo for a company that starts with "I" and ends with "ntel". (they ARE everywhere)

I have seen the signs on the map, but doesn't say Intel. Forget what it was but I did hear comments from another player about the advertising and just shrugged it off. I will pay more attention next time. Highway Tampa is a great map for armor and aircraft. Infantry doesn't last long. Both mains are uncapable. I still like Dragon Valley the most but this one is pretty nice.

Desert Conflict update has been released. Modjive will automatically download and install if you have it. Otherwise http://www.desert-conflict.org/

Have you played it yet? The only big complaint I ever saw from the alpha was serious lag on a couple of the maps. I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

There is still some lag on those two maps, but so very little it's not worth talking about. Some players were still complaining, but as far as I'm concerned, it's not like I paid big dollars for it and need 5 patches to make it half as good as POE and Desert Conflict. I enjoy the two mods far more than Vanilla. No stats, brings in players that are not as whine prone as in regular.
It is worth the 800 meg download, which took 30 minutes using Modjive.

Another new mod, this time with the subs etc. Like the old BF1942 DC.

http://www.nationsatwar.info/ another 1.8 gig download.
It has some interesting features, but read up on it.
