Post POE (Point of Existence) Mod updated
BVJ pointed me to the updated Point of Existence mod for BF2 this weekend. I managed to join him for a game on Sunday. He and BillyBadMule can be found playing it as of late. If you are a BF2 fan, this mod is definitely worth a look. High on realism, lots of new maps and vehicles, and pretty intense game play. Teamwork is essential ... joining a squad is automatically enforced. Non-compliant players are kicked after being warned.

You can check out the mod here: http://www.pointofexistence.com/

The download is not for the faint of heart, weighing in at around 1.8 GBytes (yes, that is 1,800 mega's ... in not quite correct hex notation). I managed to download it off of a torrent in just under 3 hours. But you can find it elsewhere, too. (see links off of the mod's home page). The install is seemless ... it even picked up all of my BF2 key assignements automatically. I was playing with all my default moves within a couple minutes of completing the no-nonsense install.

BVJ has also identified a couple of good servers for the mod, including:

64.34.165.134:16567

70.86.55.74.:16568

Check it out!

Thanks Phlem. The gamershell download site has had it's problems. I would suggest downloading Modjive available at the www.pointofexistence.com by clicking the Modjive download link and installing that. It is an application that will download and install any battlefield2 mod. Installs updates if you have the mod on your drive. It will even automatically uninstall the old version of the mod if so required as in this instance.

I haven't seen all of the maps yet, but they are very pretty. Nothing in regular BF2 compares to the graphics, sounds of both weapons and animal life etc. One barn has sheep in it, sounded so realistic that it made me want to put on my gumboots. Lay down in the grass and you disappear. So does the enemy. Great to ambush and knife. Snow maps look spectacular, and the falling snow is a nice touch. Makes you cool on a hot summer evening.

It is a big download, so if you are weak, do so at your own risk.
